I often receive calls from local citizens who are searching for a nursing home for the placement of a loved one.   As a nursing home abuse lawyer who handles cases in Sarasota, Venice, Englewood, Bradenton and throughout much of Florida, I examine complaint and annual surveys of area nursing homes.  If you are in the process of selecting a nursing home in Sarasota, Florida, you should be aware that the State of Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration regulates nursing homes and conducts annual surveys and complaint investigations.  Those nursing homes with a pattern of problems are often placed on the state’s “Nursing Home Watch List.”

Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which is located at 5157 Park Club Drive, Sarasota, FL  34235, is currently on the State of Florida Nursing Home Watch List.  This nursing home has 120 beds and bills each resident a current average daily rate charge of $250.00.  An unannounced complaint investigation was performed on October 23, 2014 at Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  At that time, state investigators cited Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for failing to meet the guidelines set forth under the Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 signed into law by President Ronald Reagan.  Those citations of deficiencies against Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center included:

F226 – Failing to ensure that the facility develops and implements written policies and procedures that prohibit mistreatment, neglect, and abuse of residents and misappropriation of resident property and that the facility must not use verbal, mental, sexual, or physical abuse, corporal punishment, or involuntary seclusion.

F241 – Dignity.  Failing to ensure that the facility promotes care for residents in a manner and in an environment that maintains or enhances each resident’s dignity and respect in full recognition of his or her individuality.

F281 – Failing to ensure that the services provided or arranged by the facility meet professional standards of quality.

F323 – Failing to ensure that the facility is free of accident hazards.

F520 – Failing to ensure that the facility maintains a quality assessment and assurance committee consisting of the director of nursing services, a physician designated by the facility and at least three other members of the facility’s staff.
